The Town Hall at Plaza Santa Ana square (Vegueta) offers from today, Wednesday the 18th of December, a new tourist information office with updated technologic tools to ease the interaction between visitors and the strengths of this urban destination Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – Capital City.
City Councillors of Tourism and District Vegueta – Cono Sur – Tafira of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Pablo Barbero and Christian Santana, respectively, presented today the new office which opened its doors after a refurbishing of the space and the installation of a new computer equipment, exhibitors, informative touchscreens and a counter to welcome visitors while respecting the historic heritage of the building.
The office has an area of 40 square metres on the ground floor of this iconic building of the city, and it sums up to the network of tourist information offices with technology to give tourists a quality service. The new office replaces the tourist information point that offered this service at plaza Hurtado de Mendoza square until today.
This tourist office has four iPad devices with high speed free Wi-Fi connection to be used by visitors, an interactive touchscreen with information, a projection screen for high definition promotional and commercial videos, and a counselling service to book and purchase services like the LPA Card, the Tourist Bus and guided excursions.
Pablo Barbero explained that this intervention “was necessary to value the tourist visits to the Old Town since it wasn’t available so far. This is a luxury to be able to place this office in such an emblematic building of this city.”
This new service is integrated in the City Council strategy to adapt the tourist attention to the new communication tools and to adapt it to the needs of an innovative tourist destination. Barbero added that “the office is an element that will undoubtedly improve the knowledge and the visits to the Old Town of Vegueta”.
The City Council of Tourism of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria currently has a tourist information office at the House of Tourism in Parque Santa Catalina and three other offices located at Parque San Telmo, Las Canteras Beach Promenade, and another in Plaza de Canarias, to welcome cruise ship passengers. Tourist informants have attended 60.000 tourists in these facilities during 2013.
